1/72 Kotobukiya HMM Psycho Genosaurer: A Brief Unboxing

My Next Series of Plamo Projects. HMM 1/72 ZOIDS. Genosaurer Variants.

While I was painting the MG RX-79 I heard my doorbell ring and, as I had expected, a mailman was there with a large box containing the newest Genosaurer and final addition to my Genosaurer collection (for now.)

After the RX-79  has been completed I will be starting on my Genosaurers. These kits are large and highly detailed. They have an immense amount of work involved from cleaning up sinks in the plastic, trimming nubs, removing seams, removing mold lines, and of course painting/detailing the 100s of parts. This is likely all my personal blog (not Mad Spiderz) will feature for close to 8 months to 1 year. Im sure I'll be working on smaller side projects on the side but, the Genos will be my main priority until I receive the cleaned up and lit up parts for my 1/35 G-System EX-S beam rifle commission. As intimidating as that sounds, I'm just painting the rifle and I'll have 2 years to complete that lol. If any of you are as excited about these ZOIDS kits as I am then stick around and watch some progress unfold! But enough about my vain pursuits and ambitions.

The Box

What a beautiful box at that! The art work is stunning and quite alluring. I can hardly stop looking at it myself. It's like the box is hitting on you but you keep telling it you're married or otherwise not single. She just won't give up! "Clever girl..."As always Koto provides you with a very detailed box that shows you enough of the kit to want it immediately, but not enough to show you just what you're getting into!

The Instruction Manual

Much like the box, the instruction manual draws you into it instantly. It's filled to the brim with lots of detailed pictures of the model along with some intricate art of the Genosaurer's various parts, sub-sections, and mechanisms. The instructions are very straight forward and this is where you start to see how detailed this kit really is.

The Runners

Lots and lots of parts! The plastic is high quality most of everywhere but theres some noticeable imperfections here and there. If you're used to working with car, aircraft, resin, and other models that require more work than lets say, a Bandai Gundam kit, you won't have any problems here. While the kit does appear to be challenging in terms of bringing the detail to life and getting everything fit together perfectly smooth and gapless, it's hardly anything to cry over. It actually looks like a whole lot of fun! Models are supposed to be fun right? It can be easy to forget that when you look at a daunting task.

They call me....Z

Hello, my name is Chris and I’m a Scorpio. I enjoy soccer, long walks on the beach, and building plastic model kits.

In all semi seriousness, I’m Chris, a.k.a. Big Z on MechaLounge/Plamocon/G.E. or The_Big_Z on Reddit. I’ve been building model kits off and on since I was a little kid, the old AMT and Revell snap fit cars and planes, a few Tamiya tanks but my interest in modeling never really took off until late 2011 when I was introduced to Gundam model kits through a random Facebook post. I was a big fan of Wing when it was shown in the States but I had no idea they made models of the kits. Now 10+ years later I am trying to get caught up on all the other anime series (Go 8^th MS!) and discovering all the awesome stuff I have been missing!

By trade I am a professional airbrush artist with over 20 years experience (yes, that means I am pretty old), specializing in custom automotive murals. I have been able to apply that knowledge to the paint side of model building, but I feel I have a long way to go on everything else. Luckily I have met some amazing people in the last year that are helping me every day by answering questions and inspiring me with amazing bodies of work. I also feel very honored to be a member of this group, because I know in modeling experience I am dwarfed by the other 3 guys (So I have a lot to prove!).

My style tends to lean more towards the weathered and damaged side of paint finishes. While I know this isn't everyone’s cup of tea, in my mind it would be a more accurate representation of how these metal monsters would look after an actual battle. On top of that, I just have a lot of fun weathering stuff and learning different weathering techniques.

As far as future plans with modeling, my backlog now consists of 100% Gundam related plastic and resin models. I plan on expanding to Maschinen Kreiger, Macross and the Zoids universe, and maybe even try my hand at some of the Games Workshop miniatures and resin kits. I have also started a small commission business with a good friend of mine (Dave a.k.a. Gunplameister) called 2 Monkeys Studios, mainly focused on resin kits and figures. I also have two young protégé’s in my 11 year old daughter and 8 year old son who both enjoy the hobby with me!

Intro to MadSpiderz -Harris Hasan

   Hello everyone! My name is Harris Hasan. I go by Harry on the Mecha Lounge Forum and frequent some other forums under relatively obvious variations of the same name (Harris.H, HarrySKRTCH.) The SKRTCH username is pretty stupid and I've wanted to change it for a while but it's not worth bothering people over lol. To explain that little bit; one of my hobbies is turntablism. Scratching records melodically for those that don't know. I doubt I'll be sharing much of that stuff here but it's something else I greatly enjoy and strive to become better at as my years advance.

Anyways...

    I was invited to be apart of MadSpiderz by Mr Zinc.  Mr Zinc is also my good friend Pawel Cynk. Zinc and I first started talking about plastic modeling on the MAC Forums about a year and a half ago now. We then started talking just because it was fun to joke around, work on models, and spend too much time laughing at ridiculous things. Later on Zinc, Decay, Sneeper1980, Hummingbird, Kamm, Darkworkx, Vanz Anasazi, and I came together and created the Mecha Lounge Forum. It's a great honor to be part of this blog along with some of the people I respect the most in mecha plastic modeling.

A little about me

   I am a plastic modeler who works almost entirely on mecha model kits. I have only been working on Gundam model kits as of lately. In the past I have built cars, aircraft, sci-fi aircraft (macross fighters), and ZOIDS (before the HMM line.) I started plastic modeling at a young age but didn't really start doing things properly till my early teens. What I mean is I was always painting and gluing my models but the first few years were trial and error and just learning how to do things. I lost interest after a while and then got obsessed again after seeing some awesome work online. I met lots of cool, supportive, and sometimes frightening critical people who encouraged and also pushed me to work on constantly improving my skills. I think because of this I have a much higher interest level now than I ever have before. Thats basically all I can think to tell you right now. Here are some of the Gundam models I have completed in the last 12 months and one I've been very very very slowly working on. I know I dont have much to show but I am also a student and don't get much time to work. When I do have time Im pretty drained.
